Hope Multiplied Announces Several New Initiatives to Provide Relief During COViD-19 Pandemic For Those Most in Need
Hope Multiplied was built upon the idea of connecting with those in need and creating solutions to meet those needs. In this ever-changing "new normal" of a global pandemic, we are proud to announce the beginning of some new initiatives we think will help those most in need in our area immediately.
In doing so, we also are making a conscious decision to work closely with other organizations and highlight other groups that are doing incredible relief work during this time. At such a pivotal moment in our world's history, it's critical that we all come together and support each other. So in that spirit, check out the video update below from our Executive Director and check out the details for each initiative below.
COViD-19 Current Initiatives
HEALTHY START PROGRAM EXPANSION - As soon as the pandemic hit our area, we set out on a mission to provide healthy meals to students and families who wouldn't have the means or resources to provide for themselves during these difficult days. We didn't know how or where we would find the resources to make this happen on a daily and weekly basis but with full confidence, we felt strongly that we had to do something. After just 5 weeks of delivering meals to 17 families in Arlington who rely on schools for meal assistance, we are happy to report that we have so far delivered over 2,000 meals to children in need. Thanks to your generosity, we have raised over $18,000 which answered our question about where we would find the financial resources to carry out this big mission. But as usual, our team has always put the work and the mission ahead of whatever financial limitations may be put upon us and truly believe we have been placed here for such times as these.
And we're not done yet. A few weeks ago, all schools in Virginia were declared to be closed for the remainder of the school year. That means another 10 weeks of children with limited to no resources for their next meal. That also means our task just got much bigger. We have committed to ensuring every one of the children we provide for has enough resources and meals for the remainder of the school year. If we reach our goal, we'll have provided over 5,000 meals to these families.
GIVING TUESDAY SPOTLIGHT - Because of the current pandemic, this year, there will be another Giving Tuesday opportunity to give to charities happening on Tuesday May 5th. And while this would be a perfect time to plug all of the great work we’re doing and ask you to support us, that’s not what we’re doing. Instead, we wanted to hlight OTHER amazing groups that are providing so much support and relief that we have seen firsthand in working with them. So below you will find 5 other organizations we are encouraging all of our supporters to contribute to on Giving Tuesday. Why? Simply put, we’re in this altogether and we feel incredibly blessed and we just felt it’s time to share that blessing and try to bless others during this time. So check out there links and go and support them!
LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS SUPPORT - Starting in May, we will be selecting 3 local, family owned businesses here in the DC area that are suffering during this time and will find creative ways to support them. From direct donations to buying programs and delivery services, we are intent on finding ways to support these struggling businesses and the employees they are trying to employ. We will be listing these businesses and the specific ways we are supporting them below. So check out each of the businesses below and get involved to help those in need.
All Fired Up - a local pottery shop with two locations in the DC area. They were chosen after hearing the owner's story and seeing how hard she is working to keep her business alive in the midst of tremendous struggle. Order a take-home kit (that will be delivered to you), and give yourself or your kids a fun new project to do at home. To learn more, watch our interview with the owner Liz, as she talks about the impact of Covid-19 on her business and her appreciation for having support.
Good Doughnut Company & Cafe - a local cafe specializing in hand cut doughnuts baked fresh every day. This veteran and family-owned business is located in Arlington, VA and has a rich family history. Craving something sweet? Savory? A fresh cup of specialty coffee? Give yourself a break from cooking at home this week and order from their menu, you won't be disappointed! To learn more about the story of this family-run business, check out our interview with the owner Charles, and his sister/co-owner/baker, Kate.
The Ministry Coffee + Wine - a local coffee and wine shop that derives its inspiration from international travels. This company was founded by a team of sisters - Elisa and Lourdes - who wanted to take the common experience of enjoying food worldwide, and bring it to those who call DC their home. While traveling might be limited these days, you can still experience international treats by checking out their menu. To learn more about the story of this local business, check out our interview with the owner, Elisa!
VIRTUAL SUMMER SERIES - While our mentor and read aloud programs were cut short this year, we're excited to announce that we will be raising funds to purchase iPads and computers for these students and will put on weekly activities for them. From story times to fitness classes to science experiments, we'll have a weekly touch point for these students to meet with our volunteers and learn something valuable each week in the summer. We're going to get through this pandemic and we're going to end up on the other side of it. And once we do, how powerful will it be for those less fortunate to know that so many people joined hands and came together to ensure they had what they needed. What a powerful message and witness to our community to show them that when things got tough, Hope Multiplied was right there with them to provide them with hope and help in their greatest time of need.
