Health & Wellness Programs
Basic needs such as food and health must be met before focusing on higher level items. Our Health and Wellness Programs target these ‘basic’ needs as an initial step to closing the inequity gap that exists in the DC metro area and beyond.
Healthy Start
Food insecurity can be detrimental to children’s academic performance, behavior, and overall well-being- potentially perpetuating a generational cycle of poverty and food insecurity.
Healthy Start is Hope’s solution to increase food security and reduce hunger in low resource neighborhoods.
start with a need
Healthy Start is a food distribution program that increases children’s access to and consumption of healthy foods in low resource neighborhoods. By consistently providing delicious, nutritious, and kid-approved foods, our Healthy Start bags serve as a tangible way to both decrease food insecurity and modify children’s perceptions of healthy eating and nutrition. We do this throughout the school year by providing nutritious meals to DC students living in low-resource neighborhoods for the days they are not in school and therefore do not have reliable access to healthy foods. We also host community enrichment events featuring education and resources specific to the local area AND support school gardens for education, community, and sustainability purposes.
Use Passionate People
This is not a one-person operation; HOPE Multiplied relies on its over 200+ volunteers to come pack these bags 2-3 times a month. Healthy Start volunteers also serve our DC partner schools by getting their hands dirty in the school gardens, being creative with hosting educational and fun games for our kids at the community enrichment events, and more! Additionally, our school and community contacts that stay involved with Healthy Start are what keeps it going. Lastly, our program participants and their families are most passionate of all. They want to do better for their children and grandchildren, and provide them the sustenance and knowledge they need to be successful.
Love with no strings attached.
We operate our Healthy Start program because it is the right thing to do - not because we want to hit a certain number or be recognized for our work. We have learned that no two food insecure households look the same For this reason, Healthy Start program consistently keeps our finger on the pulse at each of our partner schools. We tailor the services we provide throughout the year to meet the greatest needs at each site as opposed to using a “one size fits all” approach. Healthy Start loves with no strings attached -- simply do what we can, where we can, as often as we can.
Mobile Health Clinic
The Mobile Health Clinic was founded on the belief that every man, woman, and child, regardless of financial means, deserves high quality, coordinated, community based, family centered, and comprehensive care.
Start with a need
“The American health care system in beset with inequalities that have a disproportionate impact on people of color and other marginalized groups. These inequalities contribute to gaps in health insurance coverage, uneven access to services, and poorer health outcomes among certain populations.” -Jamila Taylor
In rural villages in Upper Egypt, the mortality rate is 35 infant deaths per 1,000 live births.
Hope’s Mobile Health Clinics in DC and Egypt are our way of providing a start to the healthcare inequities that plague both our country and beyond our borders.
Use passionate people
Through partnerships with local hospitals and medical clinics both in Egypt (H.O.M.E.) and in Washington DC (Children’s National), we are utilizing medical professionals to give back of their talents and bring their expertise to communities who typically couldn’t access this level of care. We know we can’t do it alone so these partnerships allow us to serve more people and connect more resources to those in need than we ever could on our own.
Love with no strings attached
We believe every person deserves access to quality, affordable health care no matter their circumstances. It’s this unwavering belief that forces us to find communities without access to quality healthcare and ensure they have every opportunity and resource available to them to live healthy, productive lives.
