Read Aloud Night

  • Arlington County Public Schools United States (map)

Our monthly read aloud night is held between our 2 campuses- Randolph ES and Drew ES. The HOPE Read Aloud program exists to aid in closing the literacy achievement gap with struggling readers. On a monthly basis, students and volunteers meet at the child’s respective school in the library (this year virtually via Microsoft Teams), and the group is led in a whole group read aloud, followed by questions that focus on reading comprehension. Following the whole group read aloud, students sit one on one or two on one with a volunteer, and practice reading- this one on one setting allows students to practice their fluency and  phonemic awareness skills (this year, students are matched with reading buddies who read with them online outside of the monthly meeting). The goal of this program is to plant a love of reading in the students and to establish a foundation for future reading success.
